Target has recalled nearly five million Threshold Candles due to them “posing laceration and burn hazards”.
The retail giant issued a recall of 4.9 million Threshold-branded candles on 18 May due to the jar being able to crack or break during use, according to a notice from the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).
Target had received 137 reports of the candle jars breaking or cracking during use, stated CPSC.
Six injuries were reported, including lacerations and severe burns.
A total of 37 Threshold candles are on Target’s recall list.

They come in multiple sizes – glass jar 5.5 ounce one-wick, 14 ounce three-wick and 20 ounce three-wick – and various scents, including water mint and eucalyptus, and apple blossom and breeze.
Details of the recalled products can be found on the CPSC website and Target’s recall page.
Consumers with the recalled products have been advised by CPSC to “immediately stop using them”.
The candles can be returned to any Target store for a full refund, or customers can contact the retailer to receive a prepaid label to return the product by post.
A spokesperson for Target said in a statement that it is “committed to providing high-quality and safe products to our guests.
“Target recalled certain Threshold candles due to potential safety concerns identified in the CPSC press release.”
