Single-use plastics are being stamped out.
Since July 2021, it has been illegal to place single-use plastic plates, cutlery, straws, balloon sticks and cotton buds on the markets of EU member states.
The same is true for cups, food and beverage containers made of expanded polystyrene and all products made of oxo-degradable plastic.
And the UK government has followed suit; from October this year, businesses in England have been prohibited from supplying, selling or offering certain single-use plastic items.
October also saw the government crack down on wet wipes containing plastic, with the launch of a consultation to ban such products across the UK.
Beyond rightly-demonised single-use plastics, the term ‘single-use’ generally evokes something wasteful and excessive.
