The Maker, the new fragrance brand from the founders of skin care player Fresh, has gained its first investment from True Beauty Ventures.
Beauty veterans Lev Glazman and Alina Roytberg opened The Maker Hotel in New York in 2020 and expanded into perfumes and candles the following year.
The second-time founders sold Fresh to LVMH in 2000.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, although True Beauty Ventures’ investment is in the beauty brand, not the hotel, first reported by WWD.
Richard Gersten and Cristina Nuñez’s investment firm is no stranger to the fragrance industry, having joined forces with Unilever Ventures last year to finance indie label The 7 Virtues.
It also has a history of backing beauty companies with second-time founders.
In February, True Beauty Ventures led a series A round financing Caliray, the 2021-launched ‘clean’ beauty brand from Urban Decay founder Wende Zomnir.
The Maker’s edp line-up includes Lover, which combines fig, vetiver, jasmine sambac and oud to evoke a warm embrace, and the freedom-inspired Libertine, bringing together pomelo, hibiscus and Virginia cedarwood.
With the fresh capital, the brand is expected to expand its retail footprint and grow distribution internationally.
It will also invest in scaling its presence in Sephora North America.
